Oral mucositis
Oral Mucositis
Oral mucositis is a common side effect of cancer treatment, with widespread, large-area oral ulcers being a typical symptom. Patients often experience immense pain at any time during daily activities, such as eating, speaking, and sleeping. Many patients consequently postpone or abandon their complete cancer treatment, delaying valuable treatment time.
Approximately 5 million people worldwide suffer from oral mucositis each year, including more than 90% of patients undergoing radiation therapy for head and neck cancer and 40% of patients undergoing chemotherapy for all cancers.
